Counsellor Penarth, Cardiff, Cardiff Bay and Barry
Marie Vaile, Counsellor in Penarth MBACP
Marie, who is a qualified counsellor lives with her husband, son and mischievous cat. She has lived all over the UK from as North as Fife in Scotland and now settled in South Wales and enjoys the glorious beaches we are lucky to have on our doorstep.
Marie is an integrative counsellor, meaning she is trained to use different modalities depending on the requirements of the client. Her main core approach is Person Centred. This approach puts the client at the core of the sessions with the aim to promote their autonomy and build on confidence to become the very best version of who they wish to be.
As well as working with people who have general reasons for entering therapy, Marie is incredibly passionate about maternal mental health and so provides a safe and non-judgmental environment during sessions for people to explore their thoughts and emotions for all stages of parenthood, whether that be during pregnancy or many years after. This is a huge life transition that can evoke many emotions and unfortunately, due to the stigma that is often attached to mental health in women after childbirth, it’s something that is not talked about due to the feelings of shame and guilt. Marie aims to break those stigmatised views and work to normalise the feelings people often feel but cannot express. Marie continues to study in this area to better her practice.
Alongside her private practice, Marie works for a substance use charity counselling people at different stages of their substance use journey. Marie has gained a good understanding of working with addiction and the varying reasons behind people’s usage. She is a trauma informed therapist and has completed further training in safeguarding and working with trauma and abuse.
Marie provides a tailored and person-centred approach to her work with clients. There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions required, this will be discussed with the client based purely on their needs during the free consultation offered and then reviewed during the sessions.
